HSBC Extends Rate For Online Savings Account

July 30, 2008

HSBC is extending the interest rate of their Online Savings account until September 15th. The current rate 3.5% was supposed to expire in August, but from the lack of interest rate cutting by the Fed’s recently, HSBC has decided to keep the rate for another month. Hopefully we will see a trend in rising savings account rates again.

This account has one of the highest interest rates out there for a $1 minimum balance savings account. HSBC’s Online Savings account is free to open and requires only $1 for a minimum balance. There are no fees with this account. There is also an ACH transfer system that allows you to move money to and from your current checking account for free.

I currently have this account and having my emergency fund in it. Since I want my emergency fund in cash for easy access to it if I need it, I want it earning the highest rate possible, and currently this is it.

ETrade Complete Savings Up To 3.30%

July 3, 2008

ETrader raised their interest rates on their complete savings account from 3.15% to 3.30% yesterday. This isn’t a huge increase, but it is good to see an upward trend in interest rates on high yield savings and checking accounts

I currently use this account for my emergency fund. I recommend it to those of you that need a place to store some cash at a good interest rate. The account links to your checking accounts via ACH and it is very easy to move money back and forth.

You can still get a $25 bonus for openening the account with one dollar. See my bonus post for details.

Currnetly the APY for ETRADE’s Complete Savings Account is 3.15%. This is a respectable interest rate for your savings if you need a place to park your money.

hsbc.jpgHSBC has raised the interest rate on it’s Online Savings Account to 3.5%. This rate is good through August 15th 2008.

There is no minimum balance requirement and you need to open the account with at least $1. You also get a free ATM card and free ATM withdrawls at and HSBC ATM. Just make sure to look at ATM fees on the machine you are using if you are using a non HSBC ATM. HSBC also has an ACH feature where you can push and pull money from your Online Savings account to other bank accounts that you may have. You can also set up scheduled transfers if you want to save money over time without having to log in and make the transfer each time.

I currently have most of my cash in this account and am very happy with it. If you have some cash sitting at low interst rates, this is great rate compared to everyone else.

Century Bank 4.01% Money Market

April 3, 2008

Century Bank Direct has a new 4.01% Money Market Account. There is a $1000 balance required to open the account, but there is no minimum balance once the account is open. There is also free personal checks and an ATM/Debit card that you can use to access your money.

They also have a 3.35% Online Checking Account.

Century Bank Direct is a division of Century Bank of Kentucky. Their Direct arm allows them to offer these accounts at higher rates nationwide. They are also FDIC insured, so there are no worries giving them your deposits, just stay under FDIC limits.

It seems like a lot of banks are trying to stay above that 4% mark. I hope so since my savings earnings are almost half what I was getting 6 months ago.
