- Keep the account active for 3 straight months

The PerkStreet Financial free online checking account is being promoted as a rewards account. You earn a reward of 1% cash back on purchases when using your debit card that is tied to the account. 5% Cash Back At Supermarkets from Discover Card
October 5, 2009
Don’t forget that for those of you that have a Discover Credit Card such as the Discover More Card, the cash back bonus for October through December is 5% at Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Movies. And 1% cash back on everything else.
Although Discover only offers this 5% back at grocery stores for only 1 quarter (3 months), it still is better than some of the other cards that have minimum purchase amounts to receive 5% such as the Blue Cash from American Express.
Here is the 5% cashback history for the year:
January – March: 5% on Airlines, Hotels, Car Rentals, Cruises
April – June: 5% on Home, Fashion
July – September: 5% on Gas, Hotels, Theme Parks
(current) October – December: 5% on Grocery Stores, Restaurants, Movies
The gas and supermarket purchases are usually what bring in the most rewards since those purchases are made often. Having a Discover cash rewards card is definetly a great card to have in your wallet when the cash back bonuses are offered.
If you don’t already have a Discover Credit cash back card, you may think about opening a Discover More Card. There is no annual fee and they are offering a $50 bonus when signing up.
Rebate Sites Increase Cash Back Percentage
October 5, 2009
In this economy as stores try harder and harder to get you to spend your hard earned dollars with them, they have slowly started to incease the cash back percentage they are willing to pay through rebates sites, if you shop with them.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with how rebate sites work, check out this post
For an example, Ebates.com has increased the rebate from 3% for HP.com to 6%. So say you are planning to buy a $1000 computer from HP.com, if you started your purchase process at Ebates you would have recevied $60 cash back from HP.com into your Ebates account. Going through the Ebates site first doesn’t have any effect on the product, price, service, return or warranty that you get from HP.
Most people don’t see the value in rebate sites. But if you do a lot of online shopping, it is a must since it adds up. If you spend on average $2000 a year online and you had an average 4% rebate that could mean $80 cash back to you that you wouldn’t have gotten had you not used a rebate site first.
The two rebates sites I use are Ebates and Mr Rebates. Both offer rebates and coupons for virtually any store that you can buy online from. I just usually go through the rebate site that has a higher percentage for the store that I am wanting to buy from. I reccomend Ebates.com and Mr Rebates.com as they are entirely free. There are no monthly fees or minimum purchase requrements when using a rebate site, you just use them just before you make your purchase. Both rebate sites pay you either by check or paypal, so getting your money is easy once you request a payment be sent to you.
Here is a quick screenshot flow of the process…
Go to your rebate site (In this case, I am using ebates.com) and select the store you want to purchase from:

Once you click on the store, you will see a spash srcreen while you are being redirected to the retail site:

You then are directed to the store website where you shop like normal.

So as you can see the only thing you need to do before shopping is to just start through the Ebates or Mr Rebates first. That is it. It takes 2 extra minutes, but guarantees you cash back from your purchase. Why would anyone not do this?
My Mr Rebates Cashback Summary:

My Ebates.com Cashback Summary:

I have made of $200 just by using these sites for my normal online shopping, and as long as they keep paying me, I am not going to stop.
$50 Tradeking Promo Is Back! October 2009
September 30, 2009

EDIT: This promotion has ended. Their latest promo can be found HERE.
Tradeking is once again having it’s annual Tradeking Promo where you can get $50 when opening a brokerage account. To qualify for the promotion you need to do the following:
- Open a new brokerage account by using the following link –
- Fund the account with $2,500 or more within 30 days of account opening
- Execute any one trade within 180 days of account opening
- NOTE: $2,500 must remain in the account (minus any trading losses) for a minimum of 6 months or the credit may be surrendered
This tradeking bonus ends on October 31st, so be sure to open your account by then! So if you are on the fence about opening an account, getting $50 for free should seal the deal.
For those of you that are not familiar with Tradeking, they offer a flat $4.95 commission on stocks and options. Tradeking was founded in 2005 by the founders of Suretrade.com which was eventually sold to TDAmeritrade. All accounts are SIPC protected, so you can be sure that your money is safe. I’ve had a Tradeking account since 2006 and use it as my primary trading account. Why spend $10 or more for a stock commission with the other guys when Tradeking offers the same service for half as much! There are no account minimums or inactivity fees. (note that in this special case to qualify for the Tradeking Promotion there is a $2500 minimum to get the free $50 but once the 6 months is up, there is no minimum balance). Check out my Tradeking Review for an indepth review of their service.
Some other cool features they offer is an ACH feature where you can move money in and out of your linked checking account. There is also a money market sweep that invests your uninvested money in a money market account that earns interest. They also offer loads of educational material to help you understand the basics of investing with stocks and options in case you are just starting out. I learned how to trade options with Tradeking very quickly using their helpful training tools.
You can also send them any paper stock certificates you have to them and they will add them to your account for free. I had to use this feature once with a stock purchase plan I had for a company I worked at. It was a very simple process and I was able to trade those stocks electronically in less than 2 weeks.
As a reminder, there is no Tradeking Promotional Code required for this promotion, just click on the link below to see all the details and sign up:
