Fidelity Cash Back Visa Review

October 6, 2008

If you are looking for a cash back credit card that doesn’t have tiers or offeres different percentages on different days, then take a look at the

Fidelity Investments Rewards Visa Signature Card with WorldPoints Rewards. The Fidelity Visa card earns a flat 1.5% cash back on all purchases.

How it works is that the card earns points based on purchases. You get one point per dollar. But when you redeeem the points to your Fidelity Account, you get $75 for 5000 points which equates to a 1.5% cash back return.

Don’t have a Fidelity account, Here is a way to get $100 when opening one. The basic Fidelity account is free and there are no fees. When you have accumulated 5000 points in your account, you can select the “Investment Rewards” option, enter your Fidelity Account number, and then in 5 days the $75 will be transfered into your account. At this point you can either transfer it to your bank account, invest it, or put it wherever you want. You can use the money immediately.

If you don’t want a Fidleity account then you can redeem the points for other rewards based on the World Perks rewards program. The rewards are unlimited, unlike other cards that cap your rewards at a certain amount per year.

I currently use my American Express Blue Cash Card for all my purchases, but when they don’t take American Express I use the Fidelity Visa card. They have a easy to use online interface to pay bills and review charges. Another cool feature that they have is that they show you pending charges as soon as your card it swiped. So you can see up to the minute activity on your card. Most credit cards only show posted charges which can ususally appear 2-3 days after you used the card.

This card, like most today, has no annual fee or random charges. If you are looking for a constant decent cash back rate and no limits, Apply for the Fidelity Rewards Visa!

New $50 Tradeking Brokerage Bonus

September 30, 2008

EDIT: This promotion has ended. Their latest promo can be found HERE.

Starting October 1st through the end of November, www.TradeKing.com(read my review) is giving away $50 when you open a new account. To get the bonus you need to open a TradeKing account through this promo link www.TradeKing.com,fund it with at least $2500, and complete one trade within 180 days of the account opening. (There is no specific Tradeking Promo Code required if you click through that link)

The $50 bonus should appear in your account shortly after your completed trade.

Tradeking is by far the cheapeast full service online brokerage that I reccomend. They have limit and market orders for $4.95 per trade. Not many places can do better than that with the level of customer service that they provide. (Check out Kiplinger’s review of their customer service). The founders of Tradeking were also the founders of Suretrade.com, which was eventually purchased by Ameritrade, so they definetly know what they are doing.

I have had my account with Tradeking for about 2 years now with out any complaints. I have recently decided to start investing harder since everything is at such a low price, and I am hoping that the bail out plan will get stocks moving upwards again. Here’s to making some easy money! I hope! :)

Free $10 From Ebates Rebate Site

September 27, 2008

ebates

Another site I reguraly use when shopping online is Ebates. This site pays you a rebate back from shopping at a particular online store.

For example, I love Old Navy T-Shirts as they seem to last forever no matter how many times you wash them. When you click on the “Old Navy” link from Ebates, it takes you to the Old Navy site where you will automatically get back a 4% rebate in your Ebates account on any purchases made at Old Navy. So if I were to spend $100 I would get a $4 rebate in my account.

The rebate %’s vary by store, but they seem to have most of the popular online stores in their list.

It usually takes 90 days for the rebate to be available to withdraw and it comes in the form of a check mailed to your home after you ask for a check.

What is the catch? None. Many websites give rebates back to people that direct shoppers to them. They are usually called associate programs. Ebates just shares part of that rebate with you. If you do a lot of online shopping, this is something you should really take a look at.

Currently Ebates is offering a $10 Bonus for opening an account with them. There are no fees associated with the account, you just get paid the more you use it.

What you need to do: Open an account with Ebates
Obligation: None
Account Fees: None
Initial Reward (if any): $10.00 for opening an account
Money to get started: None – but you have to shop online to earn more rebates

Free $50 from Chase Freedom Visa Card

September 14, 2008

Chase is offering a $50 sign up bonus for their Chase FreedomSM Credit Card
after your first purchase.

This card is flexible in the fact that you can switch between cash back and miles whenever you want. So if you are currently getting cash back, but then decided you want to use miles for a vacation, you can switch over to miles, use them for your trip, then switch back to cash back. Also, there is no annual fee with this card.

Here is the earnings breakdown:

  • Earn 3% back at gas stations, grocery stores and quick service restaurants
  • Earn 1% back everywhere else

Don’t forget that most grocery stores offer gift cards. So you can earn 3% on more than just gas stations, grocery stores and quick service restaurants. For example, the Dominick’s grocery store by me sells Home Depot gift cards, among may others. If I were to use the Chase Freedom Visa at Home Depot I would only receive the 1% back, but if I buy a $100 Home Depot Gift card from the grocery store, I would receive the 3% back. This is another little way to maximize your earnings with this card. Happy Shopping!!

What you need to do: Sign up for the Chase FreedomSM Credit Card
Obligation: None
Initial Reward (if any): $50 after first purchase
Money to get started: $0
Things to Note: There will be hard credit inquiry applied to your credit report when applying for the card
