Since the market has turned around a bit many of the online brokerage sites are offering promos to get you to open an account. Now is not a bad time to start investing since the market is still of its highs from last year but seems to be rebounding a bit. Sure we still may be in for a rocky ride, but if you are investing in the long term, now is the perfect time to get going. optionshouse to Increase Trading Commsion by $1 on Thursday

optionshouse.com, one of the discount brokers with the lowest trading commission around, will be raising its stock trading commission from $2.95 to $3.95 per trade. I was notified via email this morning that after the market closes on 1/13/2011 they will increase the commission $1, but that existing customers will not be affected.

I immediately went to the site to check it out and it appears that they are still advertising the $2.95 rate. My guess is that if you sign up for an account prior to 1/13, you may be grandfathered into the old rate. Unfortunately they are not open so I can’t contact their customer service to verify.

If you want to jump in to try to beat the commsion increase, you might give it a shot to see. There is a current optionshouse promo, where when you open a new account with at least $3,000,you’ll get 100 free trades that you execute within 60 days of the account opening. Tradeking is rolling into the new year and giving away $50 while doing it. Yes folks, that is right, the ever popular $50 Tradeking Promotion is back, but this time with a sweetened offer. For those of you that are not familiar with Tradeking, they are one of the most popular discount brokers that offer a flat stock trading rate of $4.95. 100 Free Trades from optionshouse IRA

OptionsHouse has been known for their promotion of giving away $100 free trades when you open a regular brokerage account with them. But now they have also extended the 100 free trades to their IRA brokerage products.

They have also included a rebate of up to $125 in transfer fees when moving your IRA from another broker to OptionsHouse if your current broker charges you for the transfer.

To qualify for the 100 free IRA trades, you need to open an OptionsHouse IRA account with a minimum of $3000. You need to use the promo code: IRAFREE during the account opening process. You can use your 100 free trades within 60 days of opening the account.
