Perkstreet Financial Checking Earn Up To 5% Cashback
July 1, 2010

In a time when banks and credit cards are lowering rewards and interest rates, Perkstreet Financial has made some exciting changes to their Free Checking Account.
They already had a great deal where if your balance is $5000+, you receive 2% cash back on all non-PIN debit card purchases and 1% cash back if your balance is below $5000+. Well now they are also giving 5% back on those same non-PIN debit card purchases in certain categories that rotate each month. They will post that information to their Blog as it changes. Here are the current 5% cashback categories for July:
- Buy gas by paying at the pump at any gas station in the country.
- Shop at Lowes®, Home Depot® and Menard’s®.
- Ben & Jerry’s ®, Dairy Queen®, Culver’s® and Cold Stone Creamery®.
Reading through that Blog it also looks like they post 5% cashback daily deals, for example they had one where you could get 5% on all Apple store purchases between 6/24 and 6/27. Talk about getting 5% back on an iPhone purchase, that would have been awesome!~~
(Note that during the first 3 months after opening your account you get 2% back on all non-PIN debit card purchases regardless of your account balance, then after those 3 months it will change do 1% if your balance is under $5000+)
The Free Checking Account does not pay interest and has replaced that by the amount of perks that you can rack up using the free debit card. There is no minimum balance required for the account, however you do need to have activity on the account each month to avoid a $4.50 inactivity charge. You can accomplish this by using your debit card, using their bill pay or have an electronic deposit or withdrawal happen at least once a month. They only require $25 when opening the account.
If you are looking to drop the large banks that only pay you zero to little interest, than you might want to take a look at this account. In terms of the cashback percentage alone PerkStreet Financial has created a very competitive checking product with their Free Checking Account

To qualify you need to open a new account using their online application by 7/9/2010. You then need to set up a direct deposit of at least $400 as well as make 10 debit card purchases.
The PNC Free checking account qualifies as a checking account that can be opened to get this bonus. The PNC Free Checking account has no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements. Discover Bank High Yield Savings
April 28, 2010
One account that tends to go unnoticed these days is the High Yield Savings Account from Discover Bank. The yield, currently 1.35% is higher than that of INGDirect’s Orange Savings and Ally Bank’s High Yield Savings account. To receive that high rate, you need a minimum balance of $500 in the account.
Discover Bank is the same institution that issues the Discover credit card, so they have been around for a while. In addition, they are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per account.
One interesting thing about Discover Bank is that you rarely see advertisements like the other banks. I am not quite sure why with such a high rate you think that they would steal away the competition. The High Yield Savings Account also has been been the Bankrate.com Top Tier Winner for consistently high yields.
There is an ETF feature that lets you move money in and out of the account to a linked checking account that you set up. There is also live 24/7 customer service in case you need to call them for any reason.
If you are looking for a safe bank with a high rate and great customer service, you should take a look at the High Yield Savings Account from Discover Bank.

You need to open a new Chase checking account by 5/28/2010 with a minimum deposit of $100. Then within 60 days from account opening, you either need to have one direct deposit, or use the debit card 5 times. If you feel more comfortable opening the new account in the branch, there is a feature on the bonus page that allows you to email the coupon to yourself so you can take it into the branch with you.
Chase checking accounts come with a free debit card, free online banking, free bill pay and gives you access to over 15,000 free ATMS and hundreds of bank branches. I have opened one of these account for the bonus money and use it as a secondary checking account. I have a small part of my paycheck direct deposited into the account every month to avoid any monthly fees. It is kind of working as a small savings account for me as I forget that money is going in there.
