Discover Bank High Yield Savings

April 28, 2010

One account that tends to go unnoticed these days is the High Yield Savings Account from Discover Bank. The yield, currently 1.35% is higher than that of INGDirect’s Orange Savings and Ally Bank’s High Yield Savings account. To receive that high rate, you need a minimum balance of $500 in the account.

Discover Bank is the same institution that issues the Discover credit card, so they have been around for a while. In addition, they are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per account.

One interesting thing about Discover Bank is that you rarely see advertisements like the other banks. I am not quite sure why with such a high rate you think that they would steal away the competition. The High Yield Savings Account also has been been the Bankrate.com Top Tier Winner for consistently high yields.

There is an ETF feature that lets you move money in and out of the account to a linked checking account that you set up. There is also live 24/7 customer service in case you need to call them for any reason.

If you are looking for a safe bank with a high rate and great customer service, you should take a look at the High Yield Savings Account from Discover Bank.

For all of you looking for another Chase checking promo, there is a new one out there where you can get a $100 bonus when opening a new account.

You need to open a new Chase checking account by 5/28/2010 with a minimum deposit of $100. Then within 60 days from account opening, you either need to have one direct deposit, or use the debit card 5 times. The $100 bonus will be posted to your account within 10 days after one of those qualifying transactions.

Please note that to avoid monthly service fees, you need to either have one direct deposit or make 5 debit card transactions each month thereafter.

If you feel more comfortable opening the new account in the branch, there is a feature on the bonus page that allows you to email the coupon to yourself so you can take it into the branch with you.

Chase checking accounts come with a free debit card, free online banking, free bill pay and gives you access to over 15,000 free ATMS and hundreds of bank branches. I have opened one of these account for the bonus money and use it as a secondary checking account. I have a small part of my paycheck direct deposited into the account every month to avoid any monthly fees. It is kind of working as a small savings account for me as I forget that money is going in there.

See the Chase Checking Bonus page for more information.

$50 Bonus When Opening ING Electric Orange Checking Account

January 20, 2010

ing.jpg

ING is giving out a $50 bonus when you open a new Electric Orange Checking Account and making 3 signature based purchases with your debit card in the first 45 days of opening the account. Note that signature based purchases are not the same as when you enter your PIN during a transaction. In most cases you just treat this as a credit card and swipe and sign.

Open an Electric Orange high-yield checking account and enter the code EM423 into the Reference Code box in the application.

After applying you will receive an Electric Orange MasterCard Debit Card. Activate it and use it for 3 signature-based purchases within the first 45 of opening your account.

Your $50 bonus will be deposited into your checking account 50 days after you have completed your 3 purchases.

I can’t seem to find an expiration date on this offer, so get in while you still can as they just tend to disappear after a while.
