Amazon Prime Members Now Get Free Streaming Videos
February 22, 2011
For those of you that are a Amazon.com Prime member you will be elated to know that you now get free streaming from their selection of over 5000 movies and TV shows.
I signed up for Amazon.com Prime service because I buy a lot through Amazon. It only costs $79 a year and that gets you free 2-day shipping on items sold by Amazon and $3.99 next day shipping. It is well worth the cost. Well now with over 5000 free movies and TV shows, Amazon Prime just got a whole lot sweeter!
I noticed this when I logged into my account this morning. Usually you could rent/buy videos from them in a section called “Video On Demand”. Well they changed that to “Instant Videos”. When I saw that, I new something was up. There had been rumors as of late about Amazon jumping into the streaming video arena, but no one knew that it would be free for those on the Amazon Prime membership. Everyone was sure there was going to be an added cost. So this is definitely great news!
The free videos are not the most current releases, but there is enough out there to keep you entertained on a Friday night. You can watch these videos on your PC, but if you want to get them to your TV, you need a device that is capable of getting them there. I have a Roku Streaming Player which only runs $70. There are no monthly fees, so once you buy it, that’s it. It also streams Netflix (subscription required) as well as your free Pandora music.
Between the new free streaming on Amazon.com Prime and Netflix, I am seeing less and less reasons to be paying $80 a month for my Comcast Cable.
$2 for Five Movie Rentals from Blockbuster Express
February 21, 2011
Groupon.com has a deal going where you can get 5 movie rentals from Blockbuster Express for only $2.
I am familiar with Redbox.com, but until I saw this on Groupon I didn’t realize that Blockbuster actually had DVD kiosks. Similar to Redbox.com, Blockbuster Express charges $1 per day for movie rentals. So five rentals for $2 will save you $3. Remember, this assumes that you only keep the movie for 1 day. If you keep it longer you will be charged more.
You can check out Blockbuster Express’ Website for their movie selection and more details on the rental process, but make sure you purchase the deal through Groupon.com
This deal ends at 11:59 PM today (2/21/11)
If you are unfamiliar with Groupon.com, they are a social deal site. The premise is that a deal is offered and so many people need to sign up to trigger the deal. Once the deal is triggered, everyone that purchases it gets that deal until the quantity has run out. As it becomes more popular it seems that these deals are running out faster and faster!
Walgreens Coupon: $10 off of $60
February 20, 2011
Walgreens.com is celebrating President’s day with a few new coupon codes.
From now until Saturday February 26th, you can get $10 off of $60 when using the coupon code “PRESIDENT10” while checking out. What is nice about this is that you can use the coupon 3 times per user until the 26th. So this could essentially turn into $30 off of $180. That is 16% off of your purchases. You also get free shipping when you spend $25. So there is really no reason not to take advantage of this coupon.
Walgreens is also offering 75 4×6 photo prints for $9.99 through February 26th as well. Use coupon code “DAY75” when checking out. This is a pretty good deal considering how much ink jet printer ink costs.
Discover More Card No Balance Transfer Fees
February 17, 2011
The Discover More Card is one of the more popular cash back cards out there due to is 5% cash back revolving categories. What makes this an even more popular card is when Discover decides to drop its balance transfer fee when moving balances from another card to the Discover More Card. I haven’t seen a card that offers a fee free balance transfer in a while!
Well that is exactly what is going on right now. When you Apply for the Discover More Card you can transfer a balance with no fees for up to 12 months at a 0% interest rate.
If you have a larger balance that is going to take a longer time to pay down, you might opt for their other promotion where you can get a 0% transfer rate for up to 24 months. This transfer does however include a fee. The fee is 5% of the amount of each transfer made when you use this link to apply.
And for those of you with no balance to transfer, don’t fret! I have an offer for you too. If you apply using this link you can get a $100 cash back when you make $500 in purchases during your first three months with the card.
No matter which way you apply, you will have the benefit of a rewards program that pays 5% cash back in rotating quarterly categories along with 1% cash back on all other purchases. Here is the breakdown on the 5% categories for this year (2011):
- January – March: Travel and Restaurants
- March: Grocery and Drug Stores
- April – June: Home and Fashion
- July – September: Gas, Hotels, Movies and Theme Parks
- October – December: Restaurants and Fashion
There is no annual fee on the Discover More Card, so what are you waiting for!
Best Broker For Trading Penny Stocks
February 7, 2011
If you are like me, I am sure you receive the random spam email telling you about how a certain stock is going to double in value and you should get in right away. Well most likely they are referring to trading a penny stock. I never advise that you purchase anything from those emails. Usually the sender already owns the stock and is hoping that if you buy it will drive the price up so that he can sell, leaving you with stock that will probably never move.
I trade penny stocks and have been making a decent amount of money, but before I explain how, lets start with the basics. What is a penny stock? Penny stocks are shares of small public companies that currently trade for less than one dollar. Since the price is so low you can usually pick up millions of shares at a low price. The only issue with this is that the company could just go bankrupt, or the share price never changes leaving you with a poor investment.
Many people have made millions on penny stocks, buying shares up at a fraction of a penny and then selling once the stock rises over a dollar. Let me tell you, these are few and far between and even if you were lucky enough to see this, you probably had some insider information, which if you weren’t aware, is illegal.
Ok, so lets discuss my strategy. First off, any money I put into penny stocks is money that I am assuming I am going to lose. Great strategy huh? Well to be honest, I know the risks of penny stocks. So if I invest $500 say on a particular stock, the risk of losing it all is worth the chance that it quadruples in value. Now in some cases you can find a penny stock that is a circular stock meaning it goes up to a certain price, falls down to a certain price and repeats. So it you can predict the ups and downs then you can make a little money off of it. This is exactly what I have been doing.
The penny stock I have been trading is a company called Hard To Treat Diseases (HTDS). I chose this stock purely due to is circular nature. It fluctuates between $.0002 and $.0003. I have been buying $1,000,000 shares at $.0002 for $200 and selling all one million shares at $.0003 for $300. An instant $100 profit. I then put in another buy order to pick it up at $.0002 and repeat. I have done this 11 times in the past month for a total profit of $1000. This is not including trading commissions which I am about to discuss next.
Most discount brokers have low stock trading commissions, but most of them offer those low rates for stocks above $1.00. Once you start talking about buying and selling stocks below $1.00 that is when they start tacking fees on. Well obviously I couldn’t play this game if I didn’t find a broker with no fees on trading penny stocks. My current broker actually adds on $.01 per share on to their normal commission when trading penny stocks. Ok, so if I am trading a million shares, my commission is over $10,000. That is crazy.
After doing some reseach, I found that best broker for trading penny stocks happens to be Zecco.com. Their $4.50 trading commission is all you pay, regardless of the stock price you are buying. So I can buy 5,000,000 shares of HTDS for a commission of $4.50 and that is it. Zecco also has some other perks like 10 free trades per month when you have over $25,000 in your account with them, but I am mainly using them for buying low priced stocks.
OK, so again, I will repeat, buying penny stocks is not for everyone one. Most cases you will lose all your money, but there is the oppurtunuty for a big payoff if the company does well in the long run, or even if you can predict a cycle like I have seen in HTDS. Regardless of what you decide to do, make sure that the broker’s fees are inline with your trading strategy. With all the discount brokers on the market you should be able to find one that meets your needs.
