Northern Illinois University Shooting

February 14, 2008

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and families of the recent shooting at Northern Illinois University. This hits close to home as the university is only 25 miles from my home. My brother and brother-in-law recently graduated from there and my cousin is currently there as a  Junior. I guess you react a bit differently when people you know are around when something like this happens.

I hope that people learn from this and rather than trying to fortify a university, which is close to impossible, but rather take a look at gun control, cause guess what guys, what we have isn’t working. It would be nice to hear something from the Presidential Candidates on this topic as these tragedies seem to be happening more often these days! I only hope that people can start to seek help rather than feel they need to take an aggressive way out from their problems.

I am from IL and I have several friends that attend that school (luckily none that are victims). My sister is going there next year so this really hit home for me. I just can’t wrap my head around someone feeling the need to do this and it breaks my heart.

Steph – Me neither and the scary thing is that the more and more press that cover these types of tragedies seems to be a fuel for more people to try something like this. Most of these guys want publicity in the end since more of their lives they were ignored. I just hope this isn’t a continuing trend.

I was surprised that there wasn’t more coverage on this. I’m sure the Chicago stations are covering a lot of it but the news here in SC about it was scarce, i had to get all my info from friends and family still up there.
